Winter Bird Photography in the Hortobágy National Park in 2019

We have not had such a nice ‘white’ winter in the Hortobágy area for a long time!  The puszta and the landscape was snow covered throughout January. Perhaps due to the climate change `white winters` are very rare nowadays in the Hortobagy National Park.

All our guests were able to photograph White-tailed Eagles, Common Buzzards, Saker Falcons and few occasion even Eastern Imperial Eagle and Red Fox from our hides in January. The highlight of this season however was a pair of Saker Falcons. They regularly visited our Buzzard Hide and of course the snow covered landscape made it even more special!

Unfortunately we have to wait another 12 months to experience such a ‘winter setup’ again.

The birding highlight was a rare visitor to the Hortobágy area. An Ural Owl was discovered and seen in a Long-eared Owl roosting area though only stayed around for 2 days.

We would like to share a selection of images from January. Hope you like it and we hope you will visit our blog again!
